PayPal to cut 164 jobs in Ireland

PayPal is planning to cut 164 jobs in Ireland, putting nearly 12 percent of its local workforce at risk as the digital payments company moves to simplify its operations. The proposed redundancies represent 11.9 percent of PayPal's 1,380 full-time employees in the country. The job cuts were first communicated to employees in the company's business support function during an online meeting, where they were told that 29 senior agents, three team leaders, and one manager would be made redundant. A PayPal spokesperson later confirmed to Sinn Féin TD Ruairí Ó Murchú that an additional 131 positions across various departments could also be affected, bringing the total potential job losses to 164. The company's Irish workforce is split between its Dublin operations and employees working remotely, following the closure of its Dundalk office in 2023. PayPal stated that the proposed staffing changes form part of a previously announced multi-year transformation aimed at simplifying its global operations, eliminating duplication, and creating clearer reporting structures.
