Pakistan army chief reaffirms resolve to defeat terrorism

Field Marshal Asim Munir, Pakistan's Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, visited Corps Headquarters Peshawar on Tuesday and was briefed on the prevailing security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, ongoing counterterrorism operations, border management measures and the operational preparedness of formations deployed in the province, the Inter Services Public Relations said. During the visit, Munir directed formations to remain vigilant and maintain the highest standards of operational preparedness. The armed forces, with the unwavering support of the nation, remain resolute in their determination to defeat terrorism and ensure lasting peace and stability across the country, ISPR quoted him as saying. He also laid a floral wreath at Yadgare Shuhada and offered Fateha, paying tribute to those who died in defence of the country and in the fight against terrorism. The visit came days after an attack on Kohat's old Police Lines that killed 22 people, including 16 police officials and six civilians, and injured 103 others, according to Pakistani officials cited in reports. Some accounts put the death toll at 23 and injuries at about 100.
