Padikkal dismissed for 199 as India A takes the lead

Published 26 October 2026

Devdutt Padikkal was dismissed for 199, one run short of a double century, as India A moved into the lead against New Zealand A in Lincoln on October 26. The left-handed batter resumed the third day of the unofficial Test on 56 and made his highest score for India A before an apparent caught-behind decision ended his innings. Zak Gibson bowled a delivery down the leg side in the 89th over. Padikkal appeared to miss his shot, and the ball seemed to brush his pads before wicketkeeper Mitchell Hay took it. The umpire gave him out after an appeal. Padikkal showed disbelief and indicated that he thought there was a gap between his bat and the ball. The reports do not establish whether he made contact with it. Padikkal’s 199 came from 248 balls, with 24 fours and three sixes. He reached his century with a six after lunch and then advanced beyond 150. His innings followed a 215-run third-wicket partnership with Sai Sudharsan, who was also dismissed short of a century. Accounts differ on Sudharsan’s score, giving it as either 92 or 99. India A had been dismissed for 113 in its first innings, and New Zealand A replied with 317. India A lost both openers early in its second innings...
