Outer Banks star Chase Stokes details organ failure after filming

Actor Chase Stokes revealed he faced severe health issues, including failing organs, by the end of filming the Netflix series "Outer Banks," prompting a period of intensive recovery and therapy. The 33-year-old actor told The Hollywood Reporter that upon completing the show's fifth and final season, his liver and kidneys were failing, and he was "physically and mentally drained." He described his testosterone levels as "alarmingly low" for his age and said his brain was "all out of whack." Stokes partly attributed his health crisis to the demanding circumstances of the production. The cast and crew returned to filming during the height of the pandemic as one of the first major Netflix shows to resume work, a period he said contributed to his depletion. Playing the lead character, John B, since the series premiered in 2020 meant Stokes had spent more of his adult life in the role than out of it. Following the wrap, Stokes made a deliberate decision to step away from work and focus entirely on his health. He said he went "off-grid," underwent deep, intensive therapy, and received blood tests every other week to monitor his condition.
