Opera adds travel eSIM to Android browser with free 3GB

Opera has added a travel eSIM feature to its Android browser, offering users phone-wide mobile data in 47 destinations and a free 3GB allowance that expires three days after activation, according to the company. Users can buy additional data plans through the browser after the free allowance runs out. The eSIM is managed in Opera for Android but provides connectivity to the whole device, not just the browser. It can support apps such as maps and messaging while traveling, and the same installed eSIM can be used across supported destinations. Opera says the connection uses 5G where local networks support it and falls back to another available network where they do not. The free offer requires no payment details, according to Opera. However, reports list different countries whose residents are eligible: some name 10 markets, while another includes Canada for a total of 11. The discrepancy is unresolved, so the precise eligibility list is unclear. Opera says paid plans are available across the service’s supported destinations, with prices varying by location.
