Oilers acquire Hallander from Penguins for Stastney
The Edmonton Oilers acquired forward Filip Hallander from the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for defenceman Spencer Stastney, the clubs announced Wednesday, in a one-for-one trade that adds forward depth for Edmonton and moves a defenceman to Pittsburgh. Hallander, 26, had appeared in 18 NHL games, recording two goals and seven points over his career, according to the reported totals. He had played two games for Pittsburgh this season, scoring a goal and adding two assists in those appearances, the accounts said. Drafted by the Penguins in the second round in 2018, Hallander has moved between North America and Sweden during his professional career. In Sweden’s top league, the SHL, Hallander scored 40 goals and 89 points in 102 games for Timrå, according to trade coverage. He also played in the American Hockey League for Pittsburgh’s Wilkes-Barre/Scranton affiliate. A blood clot limited his playing time last season, though accounts differed on how many professional games he played before being sidelined. Stastney, 26, played 36 games for Edmonton last season, scoring one goal and averaging just over 16 minutes of ice time per game.
