Officials investigate voter ID cards found at Narmada riverbank

Published 25 October 2026

Officials seized voter ID cards found along the Narmada riverbank in Mandleshwar, Madhya Pradesh, and directed police and revenue personnel to investigate how they arrived there. Two reports put the recovered total at 343, while an official said the count had not yet been confirmed pending the inquiry. Congress has sought an FIR and an impartial investigation, but any electoral wrongdoing remains an allegation, not an established finding. The cards were found during a cleanliness drive along the riverbank in Khargone district. Mandleshwar police official Shweta Shukla said members of Niswarth Seva Samiti spotted them while cleaning the Narmada Ghat and informed authorities. A revenue team collected and seized the cards after preparing an official record of the recovery, she said. Preliminary information reported in two accounts linked the cards to the Rau Assembly constituency in neighbouring Indore district. That link has not been established as a final ownership determination. Maheshwar Subdivisional Magistrate Purva Mandloi confirmed the recovery and said a tehsildar had been sent to investigate. She said the exact number was not yet known and further details would emerge...
