Noel and Neville Tata file caveats amid trust dispute

Published 14 October 2026

Noel Tata and Neville Tata filed caveats on October 7 seeking an opportunity to be heard before a court issues any order affecting them, as a governance dispute over the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust continues. The procedural filings do not resolve the dispute or establish the allegations raised by fellow trustees Venu Srinivasan and Vijay Singh. A caveat is a legal notice asking a court to hear the filer before granting an order in a matter that could affect them. Court-record reporting says Noel Tata and another person were named as caveators in a filing involving Srinivasan and three others. Reports also say Neville Tata filed a caveat. The available accounts differ on whether the filings were made before the Bombay High Court, the Mumbai City Civil Court, or both. The dispute is also before the Maharashtra Charity Commissioner. Srinivasan and Singh have sought an inquiry into the administration and governance of the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust, including trustee appointments and the trust’s involvement in Tata Sons affairs. Those issues remain allegations under consideration, not findings by a court or regulator.
