India Wholesale Inflation Climbs to 11.39% in September
India’s wholesale inflation rose to 11.39% in September 2026 from 9.92% in August, as prices increased across food, fuel and power, and manufactured goods, according to data released by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry on Wednesday. The food index’s inflation rate climbed to 8.66% from 7.05% a month earlier. Inflation in fuel and power rose to 25.85% from 22.93%, while manufactured-goods inflation increased to 9.76% from 8.37%. One report described the manufactured-goods reading as a series high. The ministry identified mineral oils, food articles, crude petroleum and natural gas, coal and lignite, basic metals, chemicals, textiles, rubber and plastic products, and electrical equipment among the contributors to wholesale inflation in September. Retail inflation also rose, reaching 5.54% in September from 4.83% in August, according to the reports’ accounts of consumer-price data. The increase was driven largely by food prices, with one report specifically pointing to vegetables. Wholesale and retail inflation measure prices at different stages, but both rose over the month.
