Nintendo Reveals Metroid Ravenous and New Kirby Game

Published 9 September 2026

Nintendo used its September 9, 2026 Direct presentation to unveil a substantial wave of upcoming Switch 2 software, headlined by two new entries in long-running franchises: Metroid Ravenous, a 2D side-scrolling adventure, and a new 3D Kirby game scheduled for spring 2027. Metroid Ravenous continues the story of bounty hunter Samus Aran following the events of Metroid Dread. The reveal trailer depicts Samus attacked by unknown assailants and stranded on a hostile moon, where she appears to gain the ability to absorb the energy or life force of her enemies, a mechanic summarized by the tagline that it is eat or be eaten. The game is scheduled to launch on Switch 2 on January 28, 2027, and will feature Samus in a fully voiced role. Nintendo also plans accompanying merchandise, including a special edition with a SteelBook case and Amiibo figures. While Nintendo has not officially named the developer, multiple reports suggest MercurySteam, the studio behind Metroid Dread, is returning. The Direct closed with the reveal of a new 3D Kirby adventure, which most reports identify as Kirby and the World Beyond, though one outlet referred to it as Kirby A World Beyond.
