Nigerian Vice President Shettima Attends BRICS Summit in New Delhi

Nigerian Vice President Kashim Shettima arrived in New Delhi, India, on Friday to represent President Bola Tinubu at the 18th BRICS Leaders Summit, marking Nigeria's continued engagement with the bloc as it seeks to expand trade and diplomatic ties. The summit, hosted under India's 2026 BRICS Chairship, is themed "Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability" and is scheduled to take place this weekend at the Bharat Mandapam venue. Shettima is leading a high-level Nigerian delegation that includes the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Industry, Trade and Investment, Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, and Environment. The delegation's participation aims to deepen bilateral relations, expand trade and investment opportunities, and strengthen cooperation with BRICS member and partner countries. Nigeria became a BRICS partner country in January 2025, and the summit provides an opportunity for the West African nation to engage with some of the world's largest emerging economies on trade, investment, development finance, and reform of global governance institutions.
