Nigeria Reports Strike Killed More Than 40 ISWAP Fighters

Published 12 October 2026

Nigeria’s Operation Hadin Kai said its Air Component struck an Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) site in Badu Village on October 10, reporting that more than 40 fighters were killed and military assessment remained preliminary. Captain Mohammed Goni, the joint task force’s military information officer, said the strike followed intelligence that ISWAP fighters had gathered to plan coordinated attacks on troops operating in Sector 3. The military said aircraft conducted surveillance before striking a building occupied by the fighters. The site was in Badu Village, south of Gudumbali, in Guzamala Local Government Area of Borno State. The military said the fighters belonged to ISWAP’s Murabitun element, which it described as a mobile unit involved in patrols and attacks in the area. Goni said preliminary human intelligence and battle-damage assessments indicated that more than 40 fighters, including a prominent commander, had been killed. The assessment was not presented as final, and the military said further review was underway to determine the full extent of the damage. The military also reported that the strike destroyed two vehicles and about 20 motorcycles.
