New York Film Festival opens with premieres across the city

The 64th New York Film Festival opened September 25 with screenings and events scheduled across New York City through October 12. Its lineup includes premieres, documentaries, short-film programs, revivals and filmmaker discussions, with prominent selections ranging from James Gray’s opening-night drama Paper Tiger to the documentary NAZA and the sequel Godzilla Minus Zero. The festival announced a total of 119 films, including 75 features and 44 shorts, across its Main Slate, Spotlight, Currents and Revivals sections. A separate account gave a total of 113 films, and the difference was not explained. The festival also described screenings in all five boroughs, with events extending beyond the films themselves through talks and post-screening discussions. Paper Tiger, starring Adam Driver, Miles Teller and Scarlett Johansson, opened the festival at Alice Tully Hall. Other high-profile selections include Luca Guadagnino’s Artificial, a drama about the artificial intelligence industry, and Tony Gilroy’s Behemoth!, which the festival identified as its centerpiece.
