Netflix Orders Lonesome Dove Series Adaptation
Netflix has ordered a new television series adaptation of Larry McMurtry's acclaimed 1985 Western novel, "Lonesome Dove." The streamer has tapped Zoe Kazan and Jeb Stuart, who recently partnered on Netflix's "East of Eden" limited series, to serve as co-showrunners for the project. Teton Ridge Entertainment, which acquired the rights to the "Lonesome Dove" literary franchise, is also a partner in bringing the story to the screen. The new series will follow the epic journey of former Texas Rangers Gus McCrae and Woodrow Call as they embark on one final, perilous cattle drive from the Rio Grande to the untamed wilderness of Montana. The sweeping odyssey is defined by unrequited longing, unbreakable friendship, brutal frontier justice, and an unwavering pursuit of a meaningful life, according to the official logline. The story introduces an unforgettable cast of characters across the 19th-century American West. Kazan and Stuart expressed their enthusiasm for the material, stating in a joint release, "We come to this material with love and respect, and can't wait to hit the trail with Gus and Call and the rest of these beloved characters.
