Musk Says Grok Bot Will Use Outside AI Models

Published 8 October 2026

SpaceX plans to route Grok Bot requests to outside artificial-intelligence models when they are judged best suited to a task, Elon Musk said, naming Anthropic’s Claude Opus 5.5, Midjourney and Suno among the options. Musk announced the approach in a post on X on October 7, saying SpaceX would use the best backend model for a given task to provide the best outcome. He also said simple questions would go to smaller, faster models and complex ones to larger models. The post did not set out which requests would be assigned to each service or when the wider routing change would take effect. Musk did not explain how Grok Bot would access Suno’s music technology or when music requests might be routed there. Grok Bot is an AI agent app developed by SpaceXAI, the company Musk founded as xAI before SpaceX acquired it. The app launched in beta in August. Its agents can carry out tasks, and the planned approach would allow them to use models made by other companies rather than relying only on SpaceX’s own systems. A member of the Grok Bot team said Claude Opus 5.5 was rolling out and would power all bots in the app.
