Morgan Stanley Establishes Digital Asset Lab

Published 30 September 2026

Morgan Stanley has established a Digital Asset Lab to examine stablecoins, tokenized financial products and decentralized finance applications, creating a research setting for testing possible uses of blockchain technology within its business. The initiative is exploratory: the available reports do not describe a timetable for the tests or confirm that any application will become a product for clients. The lab is expected to assess tokenized deposits, central bank digital currencies, money-market funds and DeFi vaults. Morgan Stanley market-innovation leader Megan Brewer told Bloomberg, according to reporting published September 29, that the work would include those areas. The questions include how digital forms of money and software-based investment strategies might operate within existing financial infrastructure. One report described the lab as part of Morgan Stanley’s network of innovation labs, where employees can examine blockchain applications without testing them on the bank’s core systems. The reporting characterizes the work as a controlled evaluation of potential benefits and risks, not a commitment to deploy the technologies.
