Modi says developed nations emit 6 times more carbon per capita than India

Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated on Saturday that developed nations have six times higher per capita carbon emissions than India, arguing that developing countries are unfairly blamed for climate change. Speaking at the inauguration of the International Conference on The Future of Environment and Climate Dynamics in New Delhi, Modi said India's per capita emissions are less than half the global average. Modi asserted that India is the only G20 nation to have fulfilled its commitments under the Paris COP21 climate agreement ahead of schedule. He cited the country's progress in renewable energy, non-fossil fuel use, and solar energy capacity as evidence of its environmental leadership. "This is the power of New India," he said, adding that India's performance on these metrics is being discussed internationally. The Prime Minister also criticized environmental activists, stating that those who "preach most loudly" about the environment oppose India's nuclear energy projects by filing court cases to halt government initiatives. He emphasized that India is advancing rapidly in nuclear energy generation as part of its clean energy transition.
