Modi closes BRICS summit with new initiatives and technology warning

Published 13 September 2026

Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered closing remarks at the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi on Sunday, outlining India's presidency focus on resilience, innovation, cooperation, and sustainability. He announced several new initiatives and warned against the weaponisation of technology and critical minerals. Modi stated that under India's BRICS presidency, the focus has been placed on four pillars: resilience, innovation, cooperation, and sustainability. He noted that global tensions are increasing, negatively affecting the common man, and that pandemics, climate change disasters, and supply chain disruptions have shown that in the current interconnected world, no crisis remains confined to a single region. Therefore, he said, special emphasis has been placed on enhancing resilience within the BRICS group. The Prime Minister announced a BRICS Integrated Early Warning System for infectious diseases and new disaster management guidelines. He also highlighted the BRICS Logistics Supply Chain Cooperation Framework, which will help make supply chains more reliable and resilient.
