Missiles Target Aden Airport as Yemen Fighting Intensifies
Missiles targeted Aden International Airport early Wednesday, disrupting a scheduled flight from Cairo, as fighting between Yemen’s Houthi movement and government forces intensified along the country’s Red Sea coast. Yemen’s Transport Ministry said one missile landed near the runway before the flight was due to arrive, prompting its diversion to Jeddah and the movement of two aircraft away from the area. The ministry said the landing was cancelled because of the incident and concerns about further strikes. Separately, the media office of Aden’s security department said two missiles had been launched toward the airport and that no casualties were immediately reported. The accounts did not establish how many missiles reached the airport or whether any damage occurred. Aden airport is a major international gateway for areas outside Houthi control. The Saudi-led coalition said it intercepted and destroyed a ballistic missile launched toward Khamis Mushait in southwestern Saudi Arabia. Saudi state television also reported the interception. The coalition said missile threats originated from Houthi-controlled areas, including Sanaa, Saada and Amran.
