Minneapolis apartment shooting kills 2 civilians, gunman; 6 injured

A shooting at a downtown Minneapolis apartment building on Wednesday afternoon left two civilians and the suspected gunman dead, with at least six other people injured, including three police officers. The incident occurred at a high-rise residential building near the Minneapolis Convention Center, prompting a massive law enforcement response and a shelter-in-place order for a nearby university campus. The gunfire was reported to police at approximately 4:36 p.m. local time. Officers arrived within minutes and encountered a chaotic scene. According to Minneapolis Police Public Information Officer Garrett Parten, responding officers found one person shot upon arrival and then heard continued gunfire from an upper floor. As they moved through the building, they faced a haze that significantly limited their visibility. Despite the hazardous conditions, officers engaged the suspect, exchanging gunfire as they worked to rescue victims and restore safety. Three Minneapolis police officers were injured during the response. Two were shot, with one sustaining a wound to the abdomen and the other to the leg. The officer shot in the abdomen underwent surgery.
