Micron announces record Taiwan bonuses amid strike threat

Micron Technology announced record bonuses for its Taiwan workforce on September 11, offering compensation packages equivalent to 35 to 68 months of pay for fiscal year 2026. The announcement from the U.S. memory chipmaker follows an extraordinary year of profits driven by surging demand for AI memory products and comes amid a strike threat from unions representing about two-thirds of its Taiwan employees. The company stated the payouts are its strongest ever, with more than 60,000 employees globally set to receive fiscal 2026 rewards. In Taiwan, where Micron employs approximately 15,000 people and operates its largest memory manufacturing hub, the package includes a minimum cash compensation of NT1.7 million (about US$53,800). Employees who joined before August 29, 2025, will receive an additional special cash bonus of NT1 million (about US$31,650). For entry-level engineers, total rewards average NT3.4 million (about US$107,000), combining cash compensation and equity grants. The announcement was made as unions at Micron's Taoyuan and Taichung facilities have signaled widespread support for a strike.
