Miami Officials Divided Over GTA 6 Marketing

Published 5 September 2026

Miami-Dade County officials are divided over a proposed marketing collaboration with Rockstar Games for the upcoming release of Grand Theft Auto 6, with law enforcement leaders expressing strong opposition to associating the county with the game's criminal themes. The proposed campaign, intended to leverage the game's setting of Vice City-a fictionalized version of Miami-involved transforming public spaces and landmarks within Miami-Dade County into Vice City attractions. Ideas reportedly included rebranding Miami International Airport as "Vice City Airport," wrapping Metromover cars and aircraft with game branding, and installing custom manhole covers. The county submitted a pitch deck to Rockstar Games on June 29, and subsequent conversations have taken place regarding potential opportunities around the game's launch. However, county officials have stressed that no formal agreement has been reached or approved, and any proposal would require a thorough review process. Miami-Dade Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz has been a vocal critic of the plan.
