Meta Releases Muse Spark Open for Local and Hosted Use

Published 15 October 2026

Meta released Muse Spark Open on October 15, making the open-weight artificial intelligence model available for developers to download and adapt. Meta says the 816-billion-parameter model can run locally across two Apple M5 Ultra Mac Studios linked using Apple’s MLX framework, as well as through hosted services. The model has 42 billion active parameters and a context window of up to one million tokens, according to Meta. It is designed for coding and tasks involving multiple steps, and supports text, images, audio and video. Open-weight distribution makes the model’s parameters available for modification, though it does not mean the software is unrestricted. Meta demonstrated the system running with its Muse Code development tool to modify Ice Cubes, an open-source Mastodon client. In another company demonstration, the model used DaVinci Resolve to review footage and select and crop video clips. These examples show specific workflows, but do not independently establish how reliably the model performs across other tasks. The local setup relies on the memory capacity of the Mac Studios.
