Met Police submit evidence file on al-Fayed suspect to prosecutors

Published 25 August 2026

The Metropolitan Police have submitted a file of evidence to the Crown Prosecution Service concerning a suspect in his 80s as part of the ongoing investigation into sexual assault allegations against the late Harrods owner Mohamed al-Fayed. The move, confirmed in an email to survivor groups on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, asks prosecutors to decide whether to bring charges against the individual, who is suspected of two indecent assaults on two women in London. The development marks a significant step in Operation Cornpoppy, the complex investigation launched in November 2024 to examine not only al-Fayed's alleged crimes but also the actions of those who may have facilitated or enabled them.
