Met Éireann Reveals 2026-27 Storm Names Honoring Pioneers

Published 2 September 2026

Met Éireann has unveiled the storm names for the 2026-27 season, a list that honors pioneering figures in Irish meteorology as the national weather service celebrates its 90th anniversary. Among the names is Evelyn, a tribute to two trailblazing women, which has drawn a humorous reaction from one of its honorees, retired forecaster Evelyn Cusack. The annual list, created in partnership with the UK Met Office and the Dutch national weather service KNMI, contains 21 names that will be used for storms potentially causing medium or high impacts in Ireland, the UK, or the Netherlands. The season began on September 1, 2026, and will run until August 31, 2027.
