Mckenna Grace Pays Homage to Katniss’ Wedding Dress
Mckenna Grace wore a white gown inspired by Jennifer Lawrence’s wedding dress in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire at the opening of a franchise costume exhibition in Paris, drawing on a distinctive look associated with Katniss Everdeen. The appearance took place at the Elegance Is Authority: The Story, Style and Power of Panem exhibition at the Musée Rodin during Paris Fashion Week. Reports place the event on October 6 or October 7, and the available accounts do not clarify the date discrepancy. Grace’s gown was designed by Monique Lhuillier and paired a voluminous, tiered white skirt with a fitted bodice and silver embellishments. The details echoed the dress Lawrence wore as Katniss in the 2013 film, before it transformed on screen into a black outfit bearing the Mockingjay symbol. Grace’s gown was a homage, not the original film costume. In a social media post, Grace said she wanted to pay homage to Katniss and described the opportunity to recreate the look as special. She also noted that the meaning of the character’s dress was not lost on her. The exhibition displayed archival costumes from the franchise, whose story is set in the fictional nation of Panem.
