Maye Expresses Moon Landing Doubt, NASA Chief Responds

Published 9 October 2026

New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye said he was “a little bit skeptical” about whether the United States landed astronauts on the Moon in 1969, prompting NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman to say he had evidence supporting the historical record. The reports do not establish that Isaacman has presented that evidence. Maye made the remarks during his weekly appearance on WEEI on October 5, a day after New England defeated the Buffalo Bills. Asked about conspiracy theories, he said he was unsure whether the Moon landing happened, but clarified that he was not leaning either way. His description was one of qualified doubt, rather than a firm assertion that the Apollo missions were fabricated. Isaacman responded on X on October 7 to a post about Maye’s comments, writing, “I quite literally have the receipts.” The administrator’s statement signaled that he said he could provide evidence, but the accounts of the exchange do not include the evidence itself or say that he subsequently shared it. Maye said his interest in conspiracy theories grew while he was studying at the University of North Carolina.
