Marvel's Wolverine launches as mature-rated departure for Insomniac

Published 16 September 2026

Marvel's Wolverine, the new action game from Insomniac Games, was released on September 15, 2026, exclusively for the PlayStation 5. The title represents a significant creative departure for the studio, known for its open-world Spider-Man series, by delivering a linear, narrative-focused experience with a mature rating. The game carries a PEGI 18 rating in the UK due to its depiction of blood, gore, and violence, a strategic shift from Insomniac's previous superhero titles aimed at broader audiences. Game director Mike Daly stated the higher age classification was necessary to authentically represent the character, acknowledging it reduces the potential market size. The campaign runs approximately 15 to 20 hours, focusing on Logan's inner demons, his forgotten past, and his struggle with violence. Unlike the open-world New York of Spider-Man, Wolverine is a more linear game, emphasizing tighter storytelling from one mission to the next. Creative director Marcus Smith explained the team sought a more grounded approach, with closer contact between the player, enemies, and the environment.
