Marshall Pays $1,300 on Six-Year Bakery Bill
Republican Sen. Roger Marshall of Kansas has paid a $1,300 bill to a local bakery after its owner publicized an unpaid $678.75 invoice for treats ordered for his 2020 primary election watch party. The payment came after more than six years, and the baker later confirmed the invoice was settled. Holly Thomas, owner of Hollys Sweet Treats in Hutchinson, said Marshall’s campaign ordered cookies and other baked goods for the event and did not pay. In an October 8 social media post, she said she had tried for nearly a year to collect, contacting the campaign by phone and email without receiving a response. The invoice listed $678.75. Marshall said in a social media post on October 10 that he did not know how the bill went unpaid. He said his side tried to contact the business after learning of Thomas’s post, apologized and paid double. He shared a receipt showing a $1,300 payment to the bakery. Thomas subsequently confirmed that the bill had been paid and said she could mark the invoice settled. The payment is $57.50 less than twice the invoice amount, which would be $1,357.50.
