Democrats Add Six House Targets Amid Resource Debate
The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has added six Republican-held House districts to its list of seats to contest, expanding the party’s campaign map as Democrats debate how to allocate limited resources before the November election. The newly added districts are in Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, New York, Nevada and Tennessee. President Donald Trump carried all six in the 2024 election, including two by more than 20 percentage points, according to the reporting. The designation identifies races for attention but does not guarantee direct campaign funding. The expansion has sharpened a debate over whether Democrats should prioritize protecting vulnerable incumbents and concentrating money in the most competitive contests, or challenge Republicans in additional districts in hopes of gaining a larger House majority. Some lawmakers and strategists have questioned whether the party can support an increasingly broad list of targets without leaving other candidates short of help. One Democratic lawmaker contacted the campaign committee to ask how it chooses which races to highlight and invest in, according to the reporting.
