Manchester City appeal hearing expected in January 2027
Manchester City’s appeal against an independent commission’s guilty verdict over alleged Premier League financial-rule breaches is expected to be heard in mid- to late January 2027, Independent Football Regulator chair David Kogan said. The appeal outcome and any sanction have not been determined. Kogan said the appeal would be heard by a Premier League independent commission, not by the regulator. He described a prescribed 12-week process and said that timing led people to expect a hearing around the middle or end of January. No hearing date has been confirmed. The commission found Manchester City guilty of serious financial-rule breaches covering 2009 to 2018. The club contests the verdict, maintains its innocence and is appealing. The case concerns alleged violations of league rules; the appeal will determine whether the guilty finding stands. Speculation about possible consequences has included a fine, points deduction, transfer restrictions or expulsion from the Premier League. None has been established as an outcome. Football finance expert Kieran Maguire suggested that City might already know a sanction while appealing the verdict, citing secrecy around the case.
