Man dies after entering Yorkshire Wildlife Park tiger enclosure

Published 15 October 2026

A man died after entering a tiger enclosure at Yorkshire Wildlife Park in Doncaster on October 10, prompting a health and safety investigation by the City of Doncaster Council. The park said the tiger, Altai, was safe and would not be euthanised following the incident. South Yorkshire Police said the man was alone when he entered the enclosure. Emergency services were called shortly after 1:30 p.m., and he was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said his family had been informed and was receiving support from officers. The council, the park’s licensing authority, said it had launched an investigation and was working with police and health agencies. Dan Swaine, the council’s executive director of Place, said the council would not comment further on the man or the investigation while it was underway. The park expressed sympathy to the man’s family and loved ones. It said staff were deeply affected by the incident and would receive specialist support. The attraction was closed after the death and remained closed on Sunday and Monday, according to reports published during that period.
