Mac Allister Sad Over Liverpool Contract Standoff

Published 8 September 2026

Alexis Mac Allister, a key midfielder for Liverpool, has expressed profound sadness over the club's decision not to offer him a new contract, despite his contributions and the recent contract renewals of teammates Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch. Mac Allister, who joined Liverpool in the summer of 2023 and has a contract running until 2028, revealed that he received notification that the club was not in a position to open discussions for an extension. Speaking ahead of Liverpool's Champions League opener against Atletico Madrid, Mac Allister stated, "I received the news that the club was not in a position to offer me a new contract, which of course makes me very, very sad." He added that while he is happy for Szoboszlai and Gravenberch, who also arrived in 2023 and have since signed new deals, it is disappointing not to have his own contract situation resolved. Mac Allister emphasized his commitment to the club, saying, "I think everyone can see I give my 100 for this club, every single day in training, I have good games, bad games. I always give my best.
