Lagos Driver Arrested After Sergeant Dies in Lexus Collision

A Lagos police sergeant died after being struck and dragged beneath a Lexus during a stop-and-search operation, and police arrested the driver, Commissioner of Police Fatai Tijani said. The circumstances of the collision remain disputed: Tijani said the driver sped away as the officer approached, while the driver denied deliberately hitting him and said the car’s brakes failed. Tijani said the officer, identified as Sergeant Johnson Okediji, sustained multiple fractures and serious injuries. He was taken to a hospital and then referred to another medical facility, where he died. Police recovered the Lexus and took it to a station for investigation, according to the commissioner.
