Kid Cudi defends Kanye West Chicago reunion

Published 7 September 2026

Kid Cudi has defended his decision to perform alongside Kanye West at the rapper's homecoming concerts in Chicago, stating that their nearly two-decade-long friendship and artistic collaboration transcend public criticism. Cudi joined West onstage at Soldier Field on Friday, September 4, 2026, for a surprise appearance that marked their first public performance together in years. The reunion occurred amid ongoing controversy surrounding West, who has faced widespread condemnation for antisemitic remarks, including the release of a song titled "Heil Hitler" in 2025 and Holocaust denial statements. West issued a public apology in January 2026 via a full-page advertisement in The Wall Street Journal, attributing some of his past behavior to mental health struggles, including bipolar disorder. Following the Chicago performance, Cudi responded on social media to criticism, particularly from radio personality Peter Rosenberg, who expressed disappointment in people supporting West so soon after his controversial statements. Cudi acknowledged Rosenberg's frustration but stated he does not "really care if ur disappointed in me.
