Kentucky stuns No. 9 Texas A&M 31-21 in SEC upset

Kentucky pulled off a major Southeastern Conference upset on Saturday, defeating ninth-ranked Texas A&M 31-21 at Kyle Field in College Station. The victory marked the Wildcats' first win over the Aggies since 1952 and gave first-year head coach Will Stein his first road victory. The game was tied 7-7 at halftime before Kentucky erupted for 21 unanswered points in the third quarter. Quarterback Kenny Minchey, a transfer from Notre Dame, threw a 42-yard touchdown pass to Kenny Darby to break the tie. Running back CJ Baxter then scored on runs of 3 and 2 yards to extend the lead to 28-7. Minchey finished the game 14-of-18 for 252 yards and two touchdowns. Baxter rushed for 87 yards on 19 carries. The Wildcats' defense, coordinated by former Texas A&M assistant Jay Bateman, intercepted Aggies quarterback Marcel Reed twice and limited him to 236 passing yards. Texas A&M coach Mike Elko took responsibility for the loss. "I did not do a good enough job of coaching this team and preparing this team," Elko said. "I don't take any positives from this game. Kentucky came in here and whopped us." The Aggies took an early 7-0 lead but could not sustain offensive momentum.
