Kekere-Ekun Swears In 68 New Senior Advocates

Published 12 October 2026

Chief Justice of Nigeria Kudirat Kekere-Ekun swore in 68 new Senior Advocates of Nigeria on October 12, at a Supreme Court ceremony marking the start of the 2026-2027 legal year. The conferment formally admitted the recipients to the profession’s Inner Bar, a senior rank in Nigeria’s legal profession. The group comprises 67 advocates and one academic, Professor Nnamdi Onyeka Obiaraeri. The Legal Practitioners Privileges Committee approved their elevations at its 174th plenary session in Abuja in July 2026. The committee oversees the conferment process. The ceremony was held at the Supreme Court in Abuja. It followed the committee’s approval and completed the formal elevation of the 68 recipients. The rank recognizes professional distinction in advocacy or contributions to legal scholarship, according to information provided by the committee ahead of the ceremony. At the session, Attorney-General Lateef Fagbemi urged members of the Bar to uphold discipline and integrity and respect judicial institutions.
