Abuja court dismisses Achimugu’s N10 billion EFCC suit

Published 12 October 2026

The Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed Aisha Achimugu’s suit against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), rejecting her challenge to a search of her residence and her N10 billion damages claim. The ruling was delivered by Justice M.S. Liman on October 10, 2026, according to reports published two days later. Achimugu had asked the court to determine whether the EFCC acted within its powers when it searched her home and seized cars, jewellery and other belongings. She also sought enforcement of her right to privacy and an order restraining the commission from harassing her or entering her residence. Her claim included N10 billion in damages for what she characterized as an invasion of privacy. According to accounts of the ruling, Liman held that the EFCC could search her property after receiving intelligence about alleged criminal activity. The judge dismissed the suit and the compensation request, finding that Achimugu and her legal representatives had not established grounds for the damages sought. The ruling was described as finding the case without merit and brought in bad faith. The reports recount the judgment but do not reproduce it.
