Kasparov Says U.S. and Lithuania Warned of Danger

Published 1 October 2026

Garry Kasparov said U.S. and Lithuanian security services warned him and fellow Free Russia Forum founder Ivan Tyutrin that their lives were in danger and advised them to take precautions. The warnings followed U.S. charges against five men accused of plotting attacks and killings, including against two unnamed opposition figures. Neither Kasparov nor Tyutrin said officials identified them as targets named in the indictment. Kasparov said in a social-media statement that he and Tyutrin had been told their lives were at risk and that they should take security measures. He said he had done so. Tyutrin told reporters that Lithuanian authorities recently urged him to leave his home urgently and get rid of his car. He said he did not know whether he was the person identified as Victim2 in the U.S. case. The Justice Department indictment, as described in the reports, charges five men over alleged plots against two opposition figures whose names were not made public. The department said one of the men, described as an officer of Russia’s FSB security service, was involved in an offer to a U.S. citizen to kill Victim2. The citizen refused, according to the allegations.
