Kara Swisher Seeks Early Release From CNN Contract

Kara Swisher says she has asked her agent to seek an early release from her CNN contract, saying she wants to leave the network as soon as possible after a settlement cleared a legal obstacle to Paramount’s planned acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery, CNN’s parent company. CNN has not confirmed whether it will release her before her contract ends December 31. Swisher made the comments Tuesday, September 22, on her Pivot podcast with co-host Scott Galloway. She said she had been considering ways to continue working with CNN through a licensing arrangement but decided she did not want to work for the incoming owners. She also said she respects CNN’s current executives and that they had been trying to keep her. When Galloway suggested CNN might readily agree to an early departure, Swisher rejected that prediction, saying the network had been trying to retain her. Her request remains unresolved; the available accounts do not report an agreement or a decision by CNN. Swisher has contributed to CNN since 2023 and said her contract expires December 31.
