John Mulaney Eyed for Get Smart Reboot

Warner Bros. Pictures is developing a reimagining of the classic spy comedy "Get Smart," with comedian John Mulaney reportedly being eyed for the lead role of Maxwell Smart. The project is currently in the very early stages of development, with no casting decisions officially confirmed. Seth Grahame-Smith, known for writing "Now You See Me Now You Don't," is penning the screenplay for the new film. Producers Charles Roven and Andrew Lazar are attached to the project. Reports indicate that Mulaney, a four-time Emmy Award winner, is in early talks or circling the role of Agent 86, a character famously portrayed by Don Adams in the original series. The original "Get Smart" television series, created by Mel Brooks and Buck Henry, debuted in 1965 and ran for five seasons until 1970. The sitcom followed the exploits of Maxwell Smart, a bumbling but ultimately successful spy for the U.S. government agency CONTROL, which was locked in a perpetual battle with the villainous organization KAOS. The show starred Don Adams as the titular agent, Barbara Feldon as the more competent Agent 99, and Edward Platt as The Chief.
