Iran US Tensions Escalate With Tanker Strikes Drone Downing

The United States conducted strikes on Iranian oil tankers on Tuesday, September 8, following what officials described as attempted missile attacks targeting a US Navy warship. In response, Iran issued urgent warnings for ships to evacuate waters near Kuwait and Bahrain, vowing retaliation against American military sites across the region. Iranian state television broadcast alerts telling crews of oil tankers in the vicinity of Kuwaiti and Bahraini ports to abandon their vessels immediately. The message accused the United States of attacking Iranian oil tankers and declared that ports hosting what Iran termed "terrorists" would become targets. The Revolutionary Guard Navy warned crews aboard vessels whether anchored or docked that their ships would be targeted. Iranian media separately reported that a US missile struck a small tanker near Kharg Island, a key hub for Iran's oil exports, approximately four miles from the island. The reports could not be independently verified, but several blasts were reportedly heard on Kharg Island. Iranian media also reported two explosions in the southern port of Jask.
