Qatar Pushes for Hormuz Reopening Amid US Iran Tensions

Qatar is intensifying diplomatic efforts, in collaboration with China and other partners, to break the deadlock over the Strait of Hormuz and restart stalled talks between the United States and Iran. Doha views the current state of "no war, no peace" as unacceptable and a drain on the region, emphasizing the urgent need for dialogue and the unconditional reopening of the strategic waterway. Ibrahim al-Hashimi, director of the Media and Communications Department at the Qatari Foreign Ministry, stated on Tuesday that the ongoing crisis must be resolved through dialogue and that ensuring the Strait of Hormuz is not used as leverage is a top priority. "It is not acceptable at all to have this state of no war and no peace," he said, adding that Qatar is working with partners, including China, to exert diplomatic efforts and discuss "new ideas" to end the conflict. The Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Beijing on Tuesday to discuss regional security and solutions for the closure of the strait.
