Indiana candidate says “We have guns too” at forum

Jaime West, a Democratic candidate for Fayette County Council in Indiana, said during a televised candidate forum that she would “fire all Republicans” and closed her remarks with “We have guns too,” drawing attention to her campaign and a disputed allegation that a sheriff’s nephew threatened her. The remarks came in response to questions about an unpopular decision she might make if elected and her final message to voters. West said she did not like being around Republicans and criticized supporters of the MAGA movement, calling them racist and not very intelligent. She also spoke about immigration enforcement and said it was “stealing peoples’ jobs.” During the forum, West alleged that a sheriff’s nephew had threatened to “blow my head off.” Fayette County Sheriff Zac Jones disputed her account in a statement, saying he has five nieces and no nephews, does not know West and was unsure what she was referring to. The supplied reporting does not independently establish whether a threat occurred or who may have made it. West’s comments and Jones’s response were included in reports about the forum.
