India Women's Hockey Team Secures Historic Fifth Place at 2026 World Cup
The Indian women's hockey team secured a historic fifth-place finish at the FIH Hockey Women's World Cup 2026, marking their best result at the tournament since the inaugural edition in 1974. The milestone was achieved with a 3-1 victory over world number five Germany in the fifth-sixth place classification match at Wagener Stadium in Amstelveen on August 27. After a goalless first half where Germany controlled possession and created several penalty corner opportunities, India's defence, anchored by goalkeeper Bichu Devi, held firm. The team shifted momentum after the break, with Ishika Chaudhary breaking the deadlock in the 43rd minute with a reverse-lift finish.
