India Sugar Prices Ease After Government Interventions
Sugar prices in India have begun to ease following a series of government interventions, after a sharp surge over the past month that strained household budgets and prompted purchase limits on some retail platforms. Wholesale millgate prices have dropped significantly, and retail prices are showing the first signs of decline, offering relief ahead of the upcoming festival season. The average retail price of sugar across India reached Rs. 65.05 per kilogram on August 26, 2026, according to data from the Department of Consumer Affairs. This marked a substantial increase from Rs. 48.18 per kilogram recorded on July 20, representing a rise of approximately 34 percent in just over a month.
