India Opposition Marches to Supreme Court Over Voter Rolls

Published 12 October 2026

Opposition leaders led by Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge marched toward India’s Supreme Court on October 12, 2026, protesting electoral-roll revisions and seeking to submit a petition challenging alleged voter deletions. The demonstration brought together supporters and leaders from several opposition parties amid heavy police deployment and barricades in central Delhi. The march followed a request by Gandhi and Congress leaders for a meeting with Chief Justice Surya Kant. According to a Congress source, the chief justice declined the meeting and said the issue should be pursued through judicial proceedings because related matters were already before the court. The opposition subsequently filed a joint petition challenging alleged irregularities in the revision, according to one account. At Bhagwan Dass Road, police stopped the procession, and some leaders climbed onto a vehicle as marchers crossed barricades and continued forward, according to on-scene reporting. Participants included Congress leaders Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Mallikarjun Kharge, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, and leaders from other INDIA bloc parties.
