The International Monetary Fund has appointed Silvana Tenreyro as its new Economic Counsellor and Director of the Research Department, the institution announced. She will assume the role, often referred to as the IMF's chief economist, on August 10, succeeding Pierre-Olivier Gourinchas, who has returned to academia.
