IMD Hyderabad issues orange alert for heavy monsoon rains in Telangana

Published 13 September 2026

The India Meteorological Department's Hyderabad centre has forecast very heavy monsoon rains and thunderstorms for Telangana on Sunday, September 13, issuing an orange alert for the state. The warning comes as a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal influences active monsoon conditions across the region. IMD Hyderabad stated that various districts are likely to witness thunderstorms and lightning alongside the heavy rainfall. A yellow alert has been issued for four districts: Adilabad, Kumram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, and Peddapalli, which may receive heavy rains. Other parts of the state are expected to see light to moderate rains, with some areas possibly experiencing isolated showers. The forecast follows significant rainfall across several districts during the previous 24 hours. According to available data, Rebbena in Kumram Bheem Asifabad recorded the highest rainfall at 9.35 cm. Karepalli in Khammam recorded 6.5 cm, and Burgampahad in Bhadradri Kothagudem received 6.45 cm. On Saturday, September 12, Mahabubabad district recorded the highest rainfall in Telangana at 191.3 mm.
