Hong Kong has launched a pilot program to test a wholesale central bank digital currency for settling margin payments in the derivatives market during after-hours trading. The joint initiative between the Hong Kong Monetary Authority and Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing was announced on June 18, 2026.
